Diverse Learning brings together a wide range of student needs and strengths, including Gifted Education, within one inclusive Department. This integrated approach ensures that every learner, whether requiring additional support or seeking extension, benefits from coordinated strategies that remove barriers and celebrate individual abilities. By embedding gifted programs into the curriculum, the College fosters equity and belonging, while also providing tailored opportunities for students to thrive. The Department’s holistic vision strengthens collaboration among staff, promotes consistency in practice, and highlights the value of diversity as central to student growth and achievement.
Awareness of a student’s learning disability and a student’s potential is essential for the College to provide the best possible educational outcomes. The Diverse Learning Department does not complete diagnostic assessments on students as only clinicians are qualified for assessments. The main support mechanism for students with a diagnosed disability is the creation and maintenance of a Learning Support Plan. It is essential that ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ has diagnostic information to support the Learning Support Plan.
The Learning Support Plans are reviewed twice a year in collaboration with families and evidence is completed twice a year by teaching staff to meet Government regulations. Learning Support staff provide in class support in lower streamed classes for English, Mathematics and Science, where possible.
Disability Provisions are also recommended for students with a diagnosed disability with a functional impact for in-class assessments and exams. To build capacity and further support students with higher needs an after-school service, Academic Support, is offered in the library from Monday to Thursday, 3:15 - 4:15pm. All students with a Learning Support Plan are welcome to attend to assist students in a variety of ways, including homework, assignments, organisation, and study skills. Your child does not need to book and is welcome to come any or all days.
Gifted students are identified in a number of ways. Diagnostic testing by an Educational Psychologist can confirm giftedness. The school also utilises standardised testing to assist with identification and guide classroom differentiation.
The breadth of subjects offered in Year 11 and 12 provide sufficient scope for gifted and high achieving students to be continually challenged in their learning.
